The Zojirushi BB-CEC20 is one of the few $200+ bread makers out there and you’re probably wondering if it’s really worth it?
Well the short answer is yes, the value is there for this amazing bread maker, but only you can know for sure if it’s worth it for you which is why I encourage you to read the following BB-CEC20 review. I personally haven’t bought this bread maker yet, but this would be at the top of a very short list if and when my trusty hand-me-down breaks.
So why is the BB-CEC20 Home Bakery Supreme worth $200?
For one easy reason:
It’s So Easy An 11 Year Old Can Use It!!!
Now that may seem like an over exaggeration but apparently one reviewer on Amazon said her 11-year old daughter can turn out loaf after loaf of quality home made bread (I’m sure with minimal parental supervision of course).

If that’s not enough to sell you I don’t know what is, but after reading reviews on every breadmaker out there I have yet to see a bread machine that is so easy an 11 year old can use it. Some of the other selling points for this model include:
- Dual Paddles – The dual mixing paddles may make for a much more evenly mixed loaf. One reviewer said after years of breadmaking this is the only bread machine she has ever seen that mixes like a person does, and you know what? It makes sense! Why not have two smaller mixing paddles instead of one large one that leaves a gaping hole in your bread?
- Rectangular Loaves – The BBCEC20 makes rectangular loaves so it’s not awkward like some of the other bread makers. I don’t know about you but when I first started using a bread machine the large round loaves really bothered me.
- Timer Cycle – This is a great feature for working moms, frequent entertainers, and just plain busy people. The timer cycle allows you to precisely time when you want your bread to be done so you can come home to a loaf of freshly baked bread and that wonderful housewarming smell! It even includes a 30 minute after bake warming session just in case you’re late.
- Variety – This Zojirushi doesn’t just bake amazing bread it can make: jam, cake, meatloaf, pizza dough, hot dog buns, hamburger buns and more… I know it sounds crazy to make jam and other things in your bread machine but as I found out from one reviewer Japan is limited on space so the appliance has to double doing other things. One BB-CEC20 owner said they routinely make hamburger buns and would never go back to the store bought kind because it “made the burger!”
- Gluten Free – Many BB-CEC20 owners make gluten free bread, and if you’ve ever tried a gluten free recipe you know how finicky they can be.
Negative Reviews and Complaints of the Zojirush BB-CEC20
This review wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the negatives of the Home Bakery Supreme so here we are. Please keep in mind that the reviews are overwhelmingly positive and out of x there were only x that experienced problems.
- The most common complaint was that the bread didn’t turn out, either being rock hard or uneven loaves. If you’re reading reviews though you have to figure that a certain percentage of the population is going to have trouble following directions and every bread maker I’ve read about has problems like this. In the end you have to ask yourself is it the machine or the person using it?
- 2 in 100 reviewers mentioned that this machine may brown bread more on one side than the other, I’m not sure if they got a defective machine and should return it or if they are just more finicky than the general population.
- Finally there were two reports of dead machines: 1 machine was DOA, and the other one sat for 9 months after he couldn’t figure out how to make bread and then wouldn’t turn on. If you encounter either of these problems you should be easily able to return it or have it repaired. The second man said that the shop he took it to mentioned that it was an oddity and normally these machines last 8+ years so hopefully it was an isolated incident.
